What is the Creative OpenGL Mini-Driver ?
====================================================
The OpenGL Driver is a specially tuned subset of
OpenGL designed to run a selected set of OpenGL
games at their peak performance and image quality.

A normal OpenGL Driver delivered by the Chip
Manufacturer supports ALL OpenGL functions (over
400 seperate functions). This level of
functionality constitutes a validated Driver (called
an ICD) and can be officially "approved" by
Microsoft. The GOOD news is this level of
functionallity will allow any software product that
requires OpenGL to function. The BAD news is,
unfortunately, to reach this level of capability,
the overall performance of the Driver will suffer.

What is provided to you in this release is a
performance enhanced version of the OpenGL Driver
designed to work only with the Quake Engine
products. Since the Quake Engine only uses a subset
of OpenGL (less than 100 functions), a dedicated
Driver has been developed and optimized for these
functions.

This installation will search your hard drive(s)
for the appropriate games and install this custom
version of OpenGL for their use. By installing the
Driver in this way, we will NOT affect the operation
of other OpenGL products you may have and will NOT
destroy your "Validated" copy of OpenGL (installed
in your \Windows\System directory).

====================================================
Installation
====================================================
The installation process is easy ... after reading
these instructions, simply select which games you
wish to update on the next page and then let the
installation program search your system and update
it automatically. As a safety factor, any copy of
the OpenGL Driver found in one of your game
directories will be saved as "OpenGL32.001". If
for some reason you need to restore the original
version, simply rename "OpenGL32.001" to
"OpenGL32.dll"

If you need to refer to this document again, this
file will also be installed in the same directory
as the "OpenGL32.dll" file and will be called
"OpenGL32.txt".

====================================================
Product Support
====================================================

Since several of the games tested with our OpenGL
driver are pre-release demos, our OpenGL drivers
are considered beta and we can't offer phone or
e-mail tech support for them. However you are
invited to post your benchmark results, report
issues you may have found, and compare notes
with other players on the 3D Blaster Voodoo2 and
3D Blaster Banshee newsgroups on Creative's news
server.

Special Information for each Game
====================================================

Quake
=======
For Quake to use the OpenGL Driver, you will need
to have installed the "GL Quake" upgrade patch.
This patch is available from either the ID website
(www.idsoftware.com) or Quake World
(www.quakeworld.com).

To start using the OpenGL version of Quake, simply
run GLQUAKE.EXE (instead of QUAKE.EXE for the
Software only version).

The Driver is compatible with all Offical releases
of Quake engine. Creative has tested the game
with GL Quake patches 0.95 (the Non-Multi-Texture
Version) and 0.97 (the FAST Multi-Texture Version
for Voodoo2).

Quake2
========
For Quake2 to use the OpenGL Driver, simply start
the game by running QUAKE2.EXE. Once started, go to
the Main Menu and select the Video Options menu.
Under the Driver option -- select the "default
OpenGL" driver (NOT the 3Dfx Driver !!!!).

The Driver is compatible with all Offical releases
of Quake2. Specifically, Creative has tested the
game with Quake2 Version 3.06 (the CD Release),
Patch 3.14 (the Standard Demo Version) and Patch
3.20 (the latest version on the Web).

Quake3
========
For Quake3 to use the OpenGL Driver, simply start
the game by running QUAKE3.EXE. Once started, go to
the Main Menu and select the System Configuration
menu followed by the Graphics Options menu. Under
the Driver option -- select the "default OpenGL"
driver (NOT the 3Dfx Driver !!!!).

Currently, Quake3 only exists as a Demo. So
this is all we have been able to test with -- we
have tested with the original Q3T Version 1.05
and the new Q3 Arena Test2 Versions 1.06 and 1.07.
It has also been tested with the Quake3 Arena Demo
Version 1.09. As soon as Quake3 Arene is officially
released in its Full Version, Creative will test
that version and (if need be) quickly get out an
update to this driver.

Daikatana
===========
To use the OpenGL Driver with Daikatana, go to the
Video options menu by selecting "Video" from the
Main Menu and then under the Driver Option at the
Top --- select "OpenGL Default"

Currently, Daikatana only exists as a Demo Version.
So this is all we have been able to test with. As
soon as Diakatana is officially released in its Full
Version, Creative will test that version and update
this information.

Half-Life
===========
To use the OpenGL Driver with Half-Life, select the
Configuration Menu, followed by the Video Menu,
followed by the Video Modes Menu. Under the Video
Modes Menu -- select OpenGL from the Top of the
Screen. After you have selected this, please select
"OpenGL Default" from the pull down menu on the
left.

Half-Life has been tested with the release Version
of the CD -- Version 1.0.0.0 as well as Patch Version
1.0.1.0.

Heretic2
==========
To use the OpenGL Driver with Heretic2, select the
Video Settings Menu. Under the Renderer option,
select "OpenGL32".

Heretic2 has been tested with the release Version of
the CD -- Version 1.00 as well as the Enhancement
Pack Version 1.06.

Hexen2
========
For Hexen2 to use the OpenGL Driver, you will need
to have installed the OpenGL option that was
available on the Game CD.

To start using the OpenGL version of Hexen2, simply
run GLH2.EXE (instead of H2.EXE for the Software
only version).

We have tested GL-Hexen2 driver version 0.42 of the
GLH2.EXE driver (as shipped on the Retail CD). This
supports Hexen2 game version 1.00 (as shipped with
the CD) as well as Patch Version 1.06 and 1.11.

Kingpin
=========
To use the OpenGL Driver with Kingpin, go to the
"Visuals" menu. Under Renderer, please select
"DEFAULT OPENGL" and then go to the bottom of the
menu and select "ACCEPT CHANGES"

We have tested Kingpin as both the Demo Version and
the Full Retail CD Release Version.

Sin
=====
To use the OpenGL Driver with Sin, after Logging
in to the System. Choose the Controls Menu,
followed by the Video Controls Menu. Under the
Video Driver option, please select "Default
OpenGL". Finally, select Apply Changes at the
bottom of the Menu.

Sin has been tested with the release Version of
the CD -- Version 1.00, as well as Version 1.01
and 1.03. Please Note -- You must update Sin
with the Version 1.01 Patch before applying the
Version 1.03 Patch.
