This month's new arrivals for the collection.

I got some fantastic rare boards in, all from one ex-reviewer, especially the Tasmania 3D with it's very limited production run. It's the only one I've ever seen. Direct3D drivers never materialised, they brought out 3 more games which you could get if you registered with Phillips. I'm hoping to revive it soon, and shoot a video on it.

The Warp 5 is my second Warp 5, and got almost destroyed when his garage flooded, the owner of the board cleaned it up as much as possible, but when it came to me, it still needed some good cleaning. It looks very good now, and the board runs great.

Also had to get the metal polish restorer out for the briefcase, looks all shiny again, fantastic review kit.

Makes me kinda sad 3dfx entered the market and companies like these never really got a chance. Cry

Absolutely, margins were so narrow, and the competition was so fierce back in those days. So many companies with 3d accelerators (some questionable!) went down, quite sad if you think about it. Alot due to the fact that they simply could not ever have competed with Voodoo Graphics.

The Chromatic Mpact was a VLIW chip that could pretty much do everything, 2d/3d, dvd decoder, tv tuner, audio, communications, absolutely loads, all through software modules specifically written for the chip to execute. Unfortunately it never really caught on, both the original Mpact! and the Mpact! 2

Wow!
Nice cards!
I never knew that the Mpact! had RD-Ram!
I only knew the CL546X cards had it.

I've never heard something about an 3d accelerator called "Tasmania 3D", but i know some old EGA chips from "Paradise".

I've found something:

There even was a VLB Version of this 3D accelerator!  Shocked

I wonder what those special 3D Games look like!  Wink

I've got the mediaware CD that has got Incoming on it, maybe I can try that some time, also it gives pointers how to run GlQuake and Quake II. Directx should be fully supported. Smiley

I need to find some time somewhere, I'm getting married in a couple of months.  Cheesy

Yea it did come in VLB, although I've never seen one. In fact this card is from the only review that was on the net, it's gone now, wayback machine is the only one that has got the review still.
