Title: Helios 3D Rush Problem
Post by janskjaer on 20.06.04 at 18:40:55
I recieved a fully retail boxed Helios 3D Voodoo Rush (A-Trend ATC-2475) card a few days ago and I have just come round to testing it today.

So i stuck it in the machine, powered it up, but nothing happens! The machine will not boot with it in!  :( I tried playing with the BIOS settings (this had to be done with the card not in the machine as it would not even get this far!) but still cannot get it to boot.

I tried it in my more modern system and removed my GeForce 2 Pro and switched the primary graphics to PCI (to accomodate the Rush) and it won't work in this machine either!  >:(

I put it down to the card being probably dead, but it's brand new. You can tell. Everything in the box is crisp clean, even the anti-static bag the card came in was sealed and not even marked! The card has a quality check passed sticker on it, so it must have passed factory requirements.  ???

In the manual, it asks to connect the monitor cable to the VGA port AND connect the TV-OUT port to the TV as well, but surely this cannot be mandatory in order to get the card to boot, can it? Can anyone help?

Quote from Helios Voodoo Rush Manual:
Step 7 from Hardware Installation:

Quote:
Connect your monitor cable to the VGA output port on your HELIOS 3D Voodoo Rush board.  And, also the TV output port to your TV if you have a TV output option on your HELIOS 3D Voodoo Rush board

Hmm, Patience I think you are on the right lines here.  :) Some light may be at the end of the tunnel after all, thanks. ;)

When you said you slowed down the machine, what did you slow down? The CPU clock speed?

If so, I am currently running it on an AMD K-6 350MHz rig. And both machines I have tried it on, have been the LAST PCI slot (or the furthest away from the AGP slot).

What did you lower your machine speed to?

It might also fail, if it has to compete with other PCI Cards or Resources (IRQ Sharing)...

Otherwise, you could try modiying the PCI Latency (standard is 32 clocks), or Enabling/Disabling other PCI-relevant Options in the Bios (e.g. 2.1 compilance, delayed Transaction, PCI Prefetching and alike).

I have a few Voodoo Rush boards running in very fast and powerful machines, and never had Problems.

My VR "wanted" the first pci slot (the nearest from the slot Agp).

That may prove a little difficult on both my machines as on one, the CPU and heatsink sit directly below the first PCI slot, and on the second, the space between the first PCI slot and the hard drive railing chassis is too small to squeeze the voodoo rush into.  :-/
I tried FalconFly's advice, but no avail.  :(
May have to now wait until I can get hold of a different machine.

Allo mate! ;D

Yah, @Patience is correct as usual! ::)

Most old PCI gfx cards PREFER the first PCI slot, as this is the slot most commonly used for PCI bus mastering! :P

It's also the 1st slot to be initialised on boot... ::)

Looks like you'll have to wait then! :'(

Like they say though - "Good things come to those who wait!" ;)

Nuff said! 8)

Cheers Paul mate! :D

I hope you and Patience are right about this (I'm sure you are as usual! ;))

I cannot see the card being dead, as it is brand new and unused.

The seller had quite a few of these retail boxed, and other previous sellers have been quite happy with them!

It's just a case of getting a neccessary shaped mobo in a extremely large ATX case! ;)

Hehe, nice try Patience! ;)

Unfortunately, I bought the last one! I asked him the same question, to see if he had more (as I would have bought more than one I can assure you!)

Must get some pictures up of it so you can really see for yourself!

Just give me a while, as I went on a heavy drinking session last night, and I'm feeling a little lothargic (and not at all with it) today! :-[

Ok, here are the photos of my Helios 3D!  ;D

Use the links below as the pics are hi-res and I don't think FalconFly or low-bandwidth users will appreciate them being posted here:
