Title: 5500 PCI damaged :/ Post by j-dogg on 05.08.05 at 21:44:32
My 5500 PCI is apparently missing a couple parts. Here are the ones:
R511 C551 C554 C523 If anyone knows the values for those parts could they please post them up so I can fix it? I'm afraid to power it on, all the parts missing are those guys just under the GPU on the backside. |

hehe they are the missing parts for the CVI connector, your Voodoo5 5500 PCI for PC normally does not have a DVI connector , so therefore it may look a little odd :)
norries mate, you can just plug her in :) |

Are you sure? Theres are not unpopulated areas, there are area where there once was a cap or a resistor and there no longer is because it got broke off.
I'll plug it in in a minute and see what happens. |

If it does not work, I own a V5500 that got zapped due to AGP voltage on an Athlon mainboard...too high = overheated RAM! :'(
However, it's still good for spare capacitors and resistors...so if you need it, a rework will be easy for me to do! ;D 8) |

Everythign appears to be ok, had no problems in gaming with the card.
However it did restart when I opened up firefox. And I'm on an Antec TruePower 430w. |

obi wan you didn't look right, the C551, 554, 523 and the R511 are smd capacitors and a resistor on the backside of pcb behind the two VSA100 chips, they are all four units soldered on my 5500 pci, so i think they are really missing on j-doggs board

wierd, I suppose my eyes got fuzzy ::) they started spinn'n .
yeah that is somewhat odd indeed, would it be possible to rework it? |

Of course it is possible. I have a PACE Professional Rework Soldering station. ;D

oh okay, be carefull though hehe , it was known that reworking voodoo cards can be risky hehe. but it sounds like you know how that goes then :)

I checked my 'broken' AGP v5500 overheated card for the spare components... ;)
R511 - this SHOULD be missing (at least for AGP cards) C551 - present C554 - present C523 - present I'll check my PCI V5500MAC later and post again... ;) =EDIT= Confirmed, all four components exist on my V5500PCI MAC, but bear in mind that different revision cards will have different component layouts... ::) ...I can still supply the spare parts if you need them @j-dogg! ;) |

hmm the wierdest thing is, that I also have a 2300 dated Voodoo5 5500, but then it's Voodoo5 5500 AGP 64MB Rev.A 2300, it is boxed, I will make High Res Pics of it this week ;)
