Hi all!

I might need to get some replacement coolers for V5 5500 so I wanted to ask u guys if u knew which kind of VGA cooler can be installed on V5?

I found Titan cooling kit that looks like it can be used:

That blue revoltec is nice, but is for northbridges, it won't be able to keep the v5 cool for a long time. They're good, but only if u put another big fan to blow over them.

Titan will do, but it's quite small and ugly and that small fan will get loud very soon.

EDIT : you'll need some adhesive thermal paste for revoltec, since it only have clips and V5 uses push-up pins.

Just a heatsink won't do. It can keep the V5 cool in idle mode but when playing games you need a fan blowing on them.

My advice, try finding a heatsink of about 50x50mm (just a tiny bit less than 2 inches) with a fan. An old CPU cooler (P2/P3 era) would certainly be enough.

Yes, thats the one. So what should I consider for some OC? You mentioned old P2/3 coolers, but they are either old and crappy, or new and heavy  8-) I checked, because I'm right now in a process of finding a good cooler for K6-3 and Asus P5A. The one I found suitable is TT Vulcano 12. With its >700g copper it might be too much for the old V5, eh?  ;)

Jokes aside, what exactly would you recommend? Can u provide a link to a merchant or ebay auction on which i can get one?

What you could also look for is an NB-32 from Zalman plus two 40x40mm fans. (Note that an NB-47 will not work, it's not flat so you can't fit fans on it)

1) I binded it together, pulled through the back side of the motherboard holder-plate and plugged them into a 12V connector. That way it doesnt really stand in the way of air-flow.

2)Unfortunately, I have no clue about the temperatures. I got the card without the stock HSFs attached and I disliked the idea of reattaching them "just for the kicks" ;-)

3) Compared to the V5 5500 w/stock cooling I have back home on Balkans, this one is noisier. Unfortunately, what RaverX said was true - these two coolers are indeed a bit louder then they should be. Of course, its not *that* bad, but I'm spoiled. I turned off every other cooler in the retro-system - i used only heatsinks for the components that need cooling and I also use a silent PSU... so V5 can really be heard.

Thats why I'm thinking of arming my retro rig with a passive V3 3500 instead.

I've swapped the stock cooling on Gary's auctioned VoodooMAC 5500 PCI with those previously installed on my Voodoo5 5500 AGP which i wasn't using.

As you can see they're running on reduced voltage, since i don't fancy noisy fans ;)

Since lowering the voltage resulted in insufficient airflow, i've removed the 12V fan within the heatsink and replaced it with a 5V version. Both chips run much cooler now, although the db levels have gone up a bit.

Where did you get the 5V versions of these fans?  I have a pair of Tennmax coolers I'd like to install like this, but don't want to starve the 12V fans of power.

I got these here. I've purchased a set of BGA Type 0 coolers and swapped the inner fans with those on my BGA Type A's.

Nope, it means that the Lasagna BGA Cooler Type 0 is equipped with a 5V fan but lacks retention holes. The Lasagna BGA Cooler Type A does have retention holes but uses a 12V fan. Since i already had two Type A's i've purchased a set of Type 0 coolers and swapped fans. Check here for ordering information.

So I noticed, however I used a different approach. I didn't order by using that form. I have placed multiple orders with them in the past (when they did ship overseas) so I simply replied on an old order confirmation, asking if they would allow me to purchase an extra set. I don't think they initially noticed that I was foreign as their quote was based on local shipment. After I brought it to their attention that I wasn't a US resident, they didn't seem to mind sending it to The Netherlands instead.

Although their explicit statement of not being able to handle overseas orders is pretty convincing, I would give it a shot nevertheless. Personally I'm not that eager on shipping to Italy since it usually takes ages to arrive, if it arrives at all..

Another case of they wont ship outside of "their world" although Canada seems rather adventurous of them :)

My advice would be to write a well formulated English email and give them a bit of background information on why you would like to purchase their solution specifically.

Don’t go like:

"You say no longer ship any part outside of USA and Canada. I like to buy and live in Italy. Can I?"

That way your chance of even getting a response is very slim..
I'm not bashing you around though, just giving you a piece of advice ;)

Perhaps we should try a group buy, maybe they would ship a larger amount. But then theres always customs :(
