@ Denis, i thought most of the stuff went to nvidia, only the vsa-100 technology was sold to quantum3d...would be interesting (but certainly useless) to know who got their stock..

Yeah, I just had a look at their site. It's such a shame that. :( It seems majority of their marketing structure has always been based around military simulators.

Would be great if they got back into the public commercial sector and started developing cards for us! :D

thought they never used to produce public products. as i now, they splitted from 3dfx after the voodoo1 was released (that's why Ross Smith is co-founder & president) and concentrated on the market for military & simulators

To be "byed" by n-Vidia... Grrr!! I can't imagine worse ending  :'(

I didn't thik nVidia are in that much of a mess.  As long as nVidia keep a financial balance, I can't see ATI ever buying them out.  By the sounds of it, nVidia aren't doing too bad this year anyway.  They're doing quite well in fact!

It would be nice for 3dfx to rise again in some form or another, but it may be just wishful thinking!  :'(

However, I hope nVidia do stay where they are, but I also hope a lot of other manufacturers get themselves back on the graphics card scene because for the past two years, it's been a two-horse race (and seems pretty boring at times  :()

If companies like 3DLabs, Matrox and XGI get themselves back on the scene and up to speed, we could see some more competition on.  Which, at the end of the day, benfits us the most.  The more better and rivaled technology that is designed, we have a better selection to choose from in terms of performance and technology.  The advances in technology would evolve more rapidly also in that scenario.  :)

--> the problem i wrote about in the big thread in the the off-topic forum..they have to use the ati dx9 technology to get max performance, as nvidia is still not faster and M$ doesn't think about allowing other dx9 techs. so it doesn't counts if e.g. xgi has a faster tech than ati, it won't be faster due to dx9 specs & limitations  :-/ sad

but your're right, the days will come after cebit when dx9 shader3.0 are finally implemented in gfx boards or (in worst case) with dx10 coming 2005. here the cards can be mixed a new way, at least i hope so ;)

DirectX10, huh? It would be nice if ATI, nVidia and the others would make sure they implement that technology fully.
When DirectX9 came about, it was a bit of a farce because ATI were already shipping their boards out before Microsoft had already finished making the new changes to the Direct3D API.  
Who could prove that ATI's cards fully implemented all the new technology built into Microsofts 9th version of DirectX?

They seemed to recover from it though, and do well out of it too, as they are one of the leading 3D graphics vendors.

Back onto the topic of DirectX 10, Micha, do you have any URL links to press releases or even rumours about DirectX10?

Odd, Isn't it? Here we are complaining because ATI or Nvidia controls the graphics card market and they are the ones who are limiting everything, when in reality, we've got it all wrong. Who controls DirectX? Certainly not ATI/Nvidia/3DLabs/S3/XGI/Matrox.
