I have been playing around with two older machines (both are socket a athlon/athlon xp based),upgrading ram/disks/installing xpsp2/other stuff,everything went smooth,with one little exception-it seems like I cant install the latest directx no matter what,at the end of the install I just get a popup message about the install failing and that I should check the logs to determine why.after a bit of trial and error,I have found out that the last version that installs succesfully is the 22 Oct 2007 release (found here).anything from 2008 fails the way I have described (on both machines,one runs a kt333 chipset,the other sis735)..

any ideas? its not a big deal,I kind of doubt I'll be running crysis (or anything that actually requires the latest directx) on those machines (one being a scrapheap pc made for UT lanparty,the other one a small home server),but I'd like to know if its just me or something..

can someone confirm the (assumed) sse2 requirement?
