Title: Overview of all Voodoo cards.
Post by NitroX infinity on 06.10.05 at 16:10:07
The goal of this topic is to have an image of every card using 3dfx' Voodoo chips in order to create a complete overview. This is offcourse a work in progress and it will stay like that for a long time. Simply because not all cards are known and of the ones known, not all have images.

All images are the property of the ones who made them. I apologize if your image is in this jungle but has no credits on it. Please contact me at nitrox_infinity[at]mytweakers[dot]net and I will add credits on the image as soon as possible.

This post will be used to notify the reader of updates.

All images are thumbnails; click on them for a larger image.

these three cards are named as the following:

3dfx Voodoo 4-2 4200 PCI 32MB DDR-SDRAM DVI Rev.A1 3900
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/67912/thumb.jpg

3dfx Voodoo 4-2 4200 PCI 16MB DDR-SDRAM DVI Rev.A0 3100

3dfx Voodoo 4-2 4800 AGP 32MB DDR-SDRAM TV out Rev.A4 4100
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/67913/thumb.jpg

The 3dfx Voodoo 4-2 4200 PCI 16MB DDR-SDRAM DVI Rev.A0 3100 is certainly different, it's a prototype of the 3dfx Voodoo 4-2 4200 PCI 16MB DDR-SDRAM DVI Rev.A1 4600.

please refer to Gary's great Daytona page for more explanations why they are so different ;)
http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/index.htm

Also please put the Revisions and PCB dates with the cards, they tell lot's of difference also, like a Voodoo5 6000 Rev.A2 2600 is alot different than a Voodoo5 6000 Rev.A3 3400.

the Rev.A2 2600 has Cores/mem 166Mhz with Hyundai 5.5ns SDRAM and it has the old 4point VoodooVolts connector. asfor the Rev.A3 3400 that one has cores/mem 183Mhz with 5.4ns Toshiba SDRAM with the single pin Voodoo Volts connector.

You could also refer to Gary's V6K FAQ for more info to the Voodoo5 6000's and how many different models that were made.

So to me you are missing like half of the important info.

Not adding Rev's, perhaps in the distant future.
I prefer to get cards from all manufacturers first before I add more info. And yes, I know the various V5-6K rev's differ much so I will be adding some more of those later on.

A-Trend Helios 3D

I Doubt this is actually an ATC because the ATC-2465 or VD110P mark is not on the front of the card.

ProComp G111 12 MB

To my knowledge, ProComp is a reseller, they didn't make their own cards.

I'll be adding some of those cards either later today or tomorrow. Thanks :)

I got it in an A-Trend box. ;)
Regarding to falconfly's identifying-page the markings "392-0465-BOAR10" (bottom left of the card) are on a Trust Voodoo Dragon so it could be that it's a Trust-card which has been re-packed.
So what, you don't have that card listed yet, too. ;)

Trust is the biggest reseller of them all. They resell just about anything they can get their hands on.

The 'ProComp's' markings were probably placed on after the card was bought from another company. Qoutation from Gary's Voodoo Rush page:

Quote:
Hard to find Macronix MX86251 6 MB- This card seems to have made the rounds under a number of different names including Magic Rush3D and Pro Comp G-105.
This is why I believe ProComp is a reseller.

[EDIT]BTW, that A-Trend, was it new when you bought it or second-hand?

I think it's too expensive to print only the markings on an existing card because if it wouldn't be too expensive many other resellers would have done it, too, right? ;) I think ProComp resold the Voodoo Rush-cards (that's no discussion for me) but built their own Voodoo 2-cards in reference-layout.

That was used but I don't see a reason why the seller (private at ebay) should take a different package than the original in which he bought the card a few years ago. ;)

Maybe he sold the original one, or it broke, or he lost it. Card in a box is worth more than a card alone, and just a box doesn't sell quick.

Stuff I know I'm missing and would like some help on;
- 8MB Banshees?

The InnoVISION-cards, the Joymedia Voodoo 2 and the ProVideo PV380 are "original" cards IMO (the ProVideo definitely because I never saw any other V2 with a blue PCB), one reseller I know is CMC Orbit (resold Voodoo Graphics and Voodoo 2-cards).

Stuff I know I'm missing and would like some help on;
- 8MB Banshees?

I think there aren't so many 8-MB-Banshees, you have three production-cards and one prototype so they are represented. Most manufacturers wanted to build cards with more MB than the predecessor so the built 16-MB-cards to tell the customers "more MB = more power" (today it's still the same... ::) ).

This card refers the name:

@Obi; If I'm not mistaking, someone on this board had a V4 4500 "L" card which booted as a V4 4800. But that didn't make it a V4 4800 ;)

Why would it (the Daytona) be a 4800? It's counterpart (The PCI card with DVI) is called 4200 so why wouldn't it be one too?

Gary has that card it boots clearly as Voodoo4-2 4800 ;) that used to be Rolo01's card ;) remember it's a Voodoo4-2 4800 not Voodoo4 4800 ;) Voodoo4-2 means it has a VSA-101 chip ;)

1) Hank did that bios (v4-2 4800) "call out" as a joke (it also states "HankTV"), marketing handles the naming and number of boards not the engineers.

2) The L-card had been flashed with a 4800 bios, it's a 4500.

ah okay :) hehe so it wouldn't be a Voodoo4-2 at all? I wonder what it would of been called officially, Voodoo4-2 4750 maybe? I dunno what the official name would of been of that Daytona.

Not sure what the final name would of been but if it followed the other Daytonas it should have been Voodoo 4-2.

hmm still a nice card, I wonder how many of those exsist? about 2 or 3 ?

I mean thier ram and VSA-100 speed specs are the same as that of the Voodoo4-2 4200 PCI DVI 32MB DDR right, Core/mem 143Mhz with 6ns 64Bit DDR SDRAM?

@Eye-Q; I've added the rest of the cards you listed except for these two:

- Unknown Manufacturer Sold as A-Trend Helios 3D

- InnoVISION Mighty 3DX5000 Brown PCB
The PCB says it's a 6MB card, are there memory chips on the back?

Title: Re: Overview of all Voodoo cards.
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 10.10.05 at 16:02:54
I meant VSA-101 :-X but okay, so maybe a Voodoo4-2 4200 AGP TV-Out would of been the actual name for it, they do have the same chip and ram, it's only the output that would of changed the idea :) if I can remember the Voodoo4-2 AGP with TV-Out is a Rev.A0 from week 41 year 2000.

@ Nitrox Infinity
You did have a point in a certain point of view  8)

No, it's a 4-MB-card like the one with the green PCB but 4 of the locations for the RAM aren't populated. TM30 has such a card with 6 MB, it's the same PCB but all locations populated.

Unknown Manufacturer

According to yjfy's museum it's an A-Trend VD102P.
So you got the company right, just the wrong card name :)

Title: Re: Overview of all Voodoo cards.
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 16.10.05 at 16:55:35
Well a VERY BIG difference Look at this then:

my  VERO3D Voodoo Rush PCI 6MB Rev.A-C 9809 year 1998 week 09 has totally no traces for the extra outputs:
http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/albums/album87/IMAG0221.thumb.jpg

well goed kieken ej ;)

And it's totally different from the others becuase no traces are visible with this PCB colour and it's actually special because I have never seen it with another collector 8)

All the other Voodoo Rush cards havethose traces or the out put's placed, and my Vero #d simply does not have that, so might as well put it in, it surely not is your so called list.   :-/

1) Sure, 3dfx had a deal with a company that sold cards on the ImageAccel name, the were called Velocity's and were available in PCI format.

2) Ventana 3500 Quantum3D.

3) Early 1999 boards, the 3500 was originally suppose to have SGRAM since it was "a little faster"

4) Don't know about the 4500 with SGRAM, never heard of it.

5) The Mac cards had flasher built into the Mac drivers that would flash the card for you while installing drivers in the O.S.

I don't think so. Everyone was using 32Bits PCI slots which would be too slow I think.

Even the V4 4500 PCI is slower than the V4 4500 AGP. (Not much, 200 points 3DMark2000)

None the less they *may* have a unique PCI ID that requires the flash program to identify them correct.

The card I have has a BIOS revision number I have never seen before.

Fixed a big mistake.

Viewtop is not a company; it's a brandname. The company it belongs to is Britek Electronics.

Also like to note that CARDEXpert (by some referred to as cardex) is also just a brandname, from Gainward.

I have a Rush which isn't listed yet: the Skywell Magic3D Rush Lite TV (Picture is a link to a bigger picture). It looks as if it's the same PCB as the Vero3D (only in blue) but it has two connectors for a TV-Out-Daughter-PCB (bottom left of the PCB) and that part torn off where at the Vero3D is written
"VOODOO RUSH

(funny anyway - rev. A to C... ;D )

If you can't find one I'll post a pic in a day or 2

At the bottom of the Voodoo Graphics post, it says:

Quote:
Known Resellers:
2the MAX, A-MAX Technology, Colormaster, Trust, Yakumo

A-MAX Technology is a reseller, they didn't make their own cards.

Title: Re: Overview of all Voodoo cards.
Post by st4r4m4m4 on 27.11.05 at 14:10:00
Woa nice...
@obi
so far there was just a 125MHz Garnet listed, the one TM30 has.

@BFG3dfx
That is definitely a 143 on the sticker, it's very blurry but it's clear that it can't be anything else

Seems Garnet made a whole series, someday a 166 might pop up ;)

And by the way where did you get the pic!

Humm looking around for info about garnet is quite a tough job.
Here's the info about the existence of the cards: http://www.plasma-online.de/

Some minimal info about the company (u can see the company logo here)
http://www.stepupcomputing.com/bizpartner.asp

Their page http://www.garnets.com/ seems to be down/inexistent but I found this one (at some korean IT association)

Still, the card does exist, therefor it should be in the list. The question is, where?

Well if you so much want to list it it's an ordinary V4 4.5K AGP with mem upgrade and bios rework

The Voodoo Graphics supports a maximum of 4MB framebuffer memory and 4MB TMU memory and the card supports at least 3 TMU's. See Q3D's Obsidian 50-xxx0 cards ;D

so i just tried my skywell magic 3d plus1 8MB... but it seems that the card is defective :( at least turok runs, but textures are corrputed! not all textures, but some are... and it runs slowly...

could this be a driver issue? has the driver problems assigning 8MB?

i cannot see any damage or missing parts on the pcb...

Title: Re: Overview of all Voodoo cards.
Post by gamma742 on 11.12.05 at 23:11:13
You might try running the game with a 50-4400 and see if it acts the same. Some of the older games only wanted 2MB texture. I think the V2 drivers had an option like that for compatibility. If you only have a 50-4440 just pop off the shade. Try using the latest reference drivers on both cards to see if the results are the same.

You wanna sell that single TMU chip V2 card?

yehaaw i fixed my skywell card! i soldered that broken trace at one ram and no there are no more artifacts  ;D

---

to that voodoo graphics 2

no there is no information on this card. really nothing. this is the only board ever seen with this bruce and chuck, and in this layout also...makes it quite interesting.

the serial-numbers of bruce and chuck are between a voodoo2 and a banshee! and there is even no information about the serial number for the whole card! look at it, upper right... 650 ---> AND THEN NOTHING  ??? any voodoo has a number, this one not!

to answer your question:

it has 4MB Texture memory and 4MB Framebuffer!
you can even select Tripple Buffering in 3dmark 2000, with a 4MB voodoo graphic card you only can select single and double buffering. NICE!

and the 4MB extra really rock and roll  ;D:

3dmark 2000 with a P3 500 in 640x480 double buffer makes 1047 3dmarks

a 4MB voodoo graphics only scores 548 3dmarks!

almost 100% increase! wow!

i think its time for some serious voodoo benchmarks...

Got some Quantum3D questions.

I've got images of the X-24/200SB daughterboard and both cards with that daughterboard. But for some reason I can't find images of those cards without the daughterboard. Does anyone have images of 'just' the cards?

Also, what's the difference between the X-24 and 200SB? They look the same to me ???

And finally, does anyone have images of the X-16? I can only find images of it's box.

I believe the 200SB has more connectors for Swap/Lock, Sync/Lock and a connector for a 2D add-on card like the 100SB has. Otherwise I think it's basically the same card. Prolly has a different BIOS. Best to check with Chosen_One on that.

The CMC-card is a resold Joytech Apollo 3DFast II, you can enter the FCC ID here to check it. ;)
The Aristo Voodoo 2 is just an A-Trend which was resold by Aristo.

I purchased today a Banshee card, but i can't identify its brand. The PCB and the heatsink is very similar to the Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoenix, but there is no "Maxi Gamer Phoenix" label on the up-right corner of the card. On the front side of the card is ASSY number 650-0043-01 (Skywell Magic Twinpower Banshee, but it has black PCB), but on the back side it's 600-0043-01 (A-MAX Colormax VA-513, but it is a little bit different too, and has active cooling)

hmm yeah, nice one Eye-Q, it looks like you can upgrade the ram on it to 8MB, as if that is possible, that there are empty spaces for extra ram.

missing some Voodoo5 6000 models too NitroX Infinity :)

Rev.A0 0700 Blank PCB

Rev.A0 0700
Rev.A1 1500
Rev.A3 3400
Rev.A   3900

and the the the 2 6000 you listed are the Rev.A2 2600 and Rev.A 3700 :)

do remember every Voodoo5 6000 has it's differences, different parts like the extra caps on the Rev.A3 3400 and Rev.A 3900 models and the 5.4ns SDRAM on the Rev.A1 1500 and Rev.A3 3400 models the Intel Bridge chips on the Rev.A0 0700 and Rev.A1 1500 models the 6ns SDRAM on the Rev.A0 0700, Rev. A 3700 and Rev.A 3900 models and the 5.5ns SDRAM on the Rev.A2 2600 models :)

So if you were planing to list different Voodoo5 6000's might as well list them all the differences are visable :)

Hi all!

My friend has a very strange 3dfx card. It has four GPUs with very small heatsinks SGRAM memory modules. It also has an Intel and a Conexant chip, and a strange video connector. Can anyone help what this card is? :)

Also, would it be possible to 'remove' one of the heatsinks on those four GPU's without damaging the card - it would be VERY interesting to find out what's under those heatsinks!

I still think it's an A-Trend board (made by A-Trend, maybe not sold by A-Trend) , even with the ATC-number missing.
My motivation: The red dot (sticker) on the backside. Take a look at A-Trend cards and you'll find Voodoo Graphics boards with yellow and red dot's and Voodoo Rush boards with blue dots :)

It has absolutely no labels on it, neither a 3dfx logo or a date code... On he back side there is a number on the PCB 600-0012-04, Google says it's an Innovision board, but I don't think so... Inno cards always have Inno stickers and often heatsinks too.
