Title: My very own Voodoo5 5500 PCI card
Post by Leveller on 29.06.09 at 20:19:11
I have had 7 of these beasties now,I'm not really a retro gamer, apart from Zeus and Unreal tournament, the 2 old games I still play as often as possible :),they both play perfectly on my Quad core,Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine,so,there is absolutely no need for me to get a V5 5500,but,and I mean a HUGE but,I am now strangely drawn to these behemoths, they hold a fascination for me,I've not long ago sold one on ebay, but,I've just gone and bought another one,I'm gonna keep this baby and see what this Glide thing is all about,I just thought I'd share this with you
Tony

I had the luck that I found one in a box of 50 videocards I bought for 35 euros.

It is sitting nicely in a rig that consists of an opteron 146 @ 2.75Ghz, 2 x 512MB DDR550 @ 2.5-3-3-7-1T, the 5500 PCI and 2 160GB SATA drives in raid 0.

All of this is running win2k and she is very fast, for a 5500 that is. :)

I'll post some benches soon :)

it is not the 5500 that is so special, it is more the PCI version that is worth something.
The AGP version can be had for peanuts, cause ya can't put it on every possible motherboard, the PCI can be put in any rig that has a PCI slot, so........

She has 32MB for one GPU. So, two GPU, 2x32MB  :D

I understand that, but, thats not what I really meant :P ,what I meant was,why when I fit the V5 and winXP loads its generic driver,it only registers as having 32MB,but,when I load the updated AmigaMerlin drivers it says 64MB ;)

That's just because AmigaMerlin knows, what people want to read in their driver menue!  ;D

Just because the generic XP driver only reports 32MB ?
That behaviour is normal, that simple driver only sees 1 VSA-100 and therefore only 32MB.
