Title: Been thinking, too bad you can't some how....

Too bad the voodoo 5 5500 cards don't have a sort of SLI connector, cause then, in theory you could link 2 pci versions, or better yet, 1 agp and 1 pci version together to get the performance of, or at least close to that of the Voodoo5 6000.

Whatta ya guys think?? Would 3DFX have had plans for such a thing?? In theory it seems doable, so....

Just playing with some ideas that'll never happen. :)

In order to do this you would probably need a small card with the Hint chip  ;D
On the forumzone.it there is a threat about this . unfortunately i did not understand it.
On the top of the V5 card there is a feature connector, duno what is this for ???

Another cray idea is to put together an V5 6000 with a phisik accelerator together. ( Ageia PhysX  )  ;D
Maybe there is also a possibilitiy to implement in the Ageia PhysX  drivers the T&L functions :)
;)

you can connect mpeg-decoder-cards to this feature connector...NO SLI or something else...

Isn't it a VESA Feature connector?
(Used for testing output in the factory, if I'm not mistaking)

I don't think you would've needed the hint chip for that to work, as it would no longer have been 4way SLI on a board, so the lay-out would not be 1x4, but 2x2, thus no need for the HiNT, as there is no reason it should be seen as 1 card.

@ Nitrox Infinity

Yes that is correct :) Falconfly did once explainn it's means for use but I can't recall that from as now hehe.

@ Ultima

m14radu is correct a HiNT chip would be exellent for that opperation since the HiNT is needed to make sure that all 4 chips work togeather and the Xilinx chip would also be needed since that chip it also makes sure that the HiNT won't go above the 66 Mhz bus speed or something in that direction.

This is what I got from Gary's V6K page for his site as his V6K FAQ :)

"Hank Semenec quotes- "The failure of the Intel revision board to work on early Intel motherboards is caused by a bug- The Intel AGP port runs configuration cycle on itself for DEV 0 so both devices compete for the CFG cycle and lock. The Hint chips did not have this problem, indeed I'm told they were redesigned by Hint to avoid it."

"The first V5-6000 boards used a huge Intel bridge chip on the PCB for controlling the boards internal PCI bus linking the four chips. However testing showed that the Intel chip have very poor compatibility with Intel motherboard chipsets and it was dropped in favor of a Hint bridge chip on the next revision."

Did somebody try to put 2 v5 5500 cards in a sistem ?
How it's sistem behave ?
Maybe the SLI could be implement throught the drivers directly. We have to ask SFFT !

it would indeed be awesome if this could somehow be pulled off by certain drivers.

That they check whether there is more then 1 5500 present and make the SLI work through drivers.

Can anyone spot the 'normal' Voodoo 5 in all of those MAC V5500's? ???
