Title: Voodoo 5 5500 AGP BIOS
Post by Stomp357 on 13.04.06 at 22:02:10
 I found these BIOS files for different Voodoo 5 cards. My Voodoo 5 5500 AGP has v1.06 BIOS. I see there is a v1.18 for it at this site:
http://www.3dfxzone.it/dir/3dfx/voodoo5/bios.htm

  Are these official BIOSes? Any benifit to flashing to a higher version? As far as I know, 3DFX made all the Voodoo 4/5 cards, so there shouldn't be different versions of the Voodoo 5 5500 AGP?

Best to leave current BIOS as-is, changes were often made due to what brand of ram was installed on your individual board.

People says:

1)AMD cpu-->1.18

2)INTEL cpu-->1.16

Anyway, for me is the same...;D

@ Sanford euhm which people to be precise?

kinda hard to believe aka bollocks since that my 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP with Bios 1/18 works flawlessly in Intel as AMD sys setup's.

if a bios works the way it should do, my advice is also like many other's, Just Leave it the way it is, chang'n it might corrupt the card thereby mak'n it unusable unless you like to hang ém up on teh walls ... :-X

Don't flash unless you are changing the card from MAC to PC or PC to MAC ;)

well even that can be risky Gamma742 :-X though flashing from a MAC bios to a PC Bios is known to be safer and more successfull than from flashing from a PC Bios to a MAC Bios :)

The second is impossible. The regular PCI has a resistor that does not allow MAC bios flashing to Pc cards.

Yeah I know. I thought about buying Renner's 5500 PCI card that was available in the market place. I really wanted one but I guess he never got the DVI to work. I suppose they just don't work even when flashed with the PC DVI BIOS :-/

my 5500 MAC @ PC works perfect with DVI! think others would just do the same...

Here's the one I used on my V5 5500 Mac:

First off, go HERE Wink: -

...and DL the following. Cheesy

#From BIOS V5500 section#

1.18 (Digital Output Enabled)

#From UTILS section#

3dfx EEPROM Flasher 2.14

The option for digital output appears correctly in the display properties dialog, but it won't allow me to enable it -- I get a message box saying there's not an appropriate monitor connected.

Now, I only have one LCD monitor to test it on, so I can't discount a problem of some kind with the monitor's connections... it's an HP L2335.  I've tried every different setting and configuration I can think of with no joy.

Highly annoying.

Do you have DVI support at boot-up (BIOS) or only in the OS in a multi-monitor configuration

I'll stick with Hanks advice- If it's working leave it be.

I have seen too many cards STOP working after a flash and then have to scramble to try and get it up and running again, which can be very problematic with some prototypes.

I would err on the side of caution with prototype cards too.
