Title: MSI KT3 ULTRA2R-compatible with 3.3V cards or not? Post by ps47 on 21.10.05 at 17:28:46
I would like to buy a motherboard that supports both fast bartons and 3.3V agp cards, and there is one MSI KT3 ULTRA2 R motherboard available for purchase right now (local seller)..is it safe to buy it? will 3.3V agp cards work? (I know certain KT333 mobos dont really support agp 3.3V cards..)
thanks.. |

can't the EPoX EP-8K3A= support both things, like 3.3 volt / 1.5 Volt VGA cards as Barton 3K+

yeah,I know that, but epox is harder to find around here and I dont want to use ebay if possible (too much hassle if the mb arrives damaged or something.cant happen with a local seller, cause you just take the mobo back to him and bash his head with it when necessary)..what I wanted to know, does someone have personal experience with the MSI KT3 ULTRA2 R & 3dfx cards?

well If I remem Omega Supreme has that board and ran it many times with a 6K rev.A 3700 so I don't see the problem with the 3.3Volt AGP it has a universal AGP x4 so AGp x2 cards will fit so 1.5volt cards would work also.
abouth the barton support I'm not so sure, I can contact Omega Suprme for you, he has one of these mobo's ;) but then with an AthlonXP Palomino 2100+ |

Yes, it should work fine. Although I do not have this
specific model (I have the predecessor, ULTRA ARU), this mainboard has been used by many v5 6000 users. I believe even Amigamerlin used this mainboard, for his card. |

Yes when I was testing that motherboard with a 5500 the bios only indicated 1.6v/1.7v/1.8v AGP voltage options so I would use care when trying that board.
Better safe then sorry. |

Kind of not really related to that specific board and know the boards I'm about to mention are old but I know that both of the ECS boards K7S5A and K7S6A will use up to a XP 2600+ chip and will run a V5 5500 just fine. The 5A will only support DDR 2100 but the 6A at least will run DDR 2700 just fine. Haven't ran into problems with them at all. Like I said, these are older boards and I don't know if you can even get them any more, but hope this helps some one out there a little bit.

every KT266, KT 333 board has thier own different aspects if it's ECS Ellite Group, EPoX, Micro-Star International or ASUS as examples ;)
