Title: Cooling Voodoo 2 SLI's
Post by achaycock on 30.10.07 at 21:27:17
Hey folks, another question for you to ponder on.

I'm looking for suggestions on the best way to cool a pair of Voodoo 2's in SLI neatly and quietly.

I've seen this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120176417742 that might prove to be an acceptable solution, but it looks like the fella has only got one of them.

Another possibity would be some small heatsinks affixed with a thermal adhesive of some sort.

Any recommendations would be welcome.

Yup, these are the best solution...

But like you said they are RARE.

Another solution is some low profile copper ramsinks on the Voodoo chipset - then an overhead fan or blower fan.

Well, I've decided to buy that one and I'll keep a beady eye open for any others I see on a regular basis. I've also asked the seller if he has any more, just on the remote offchance that he may.

I don't suppose you have any recommendations as which RAM heatsinks I should keep an eye open for? I don't want to spend 16 quid or so only to find I've bought a set that are rather too small to cover the chipsets.

On a side note, I have actually found another working voodoo 2 sitting next to one of my voodoo 1's, a mac variant. This means I have enough to build three rigs with V2 SLI's (I have enough bridges)  ;D

As an update, the seller has told me he has two more, but he hasn't given me a price yet. Anyone give me an idea of what these V2 Stealth coolers are worth?

Not that much really...

But it depends on how much you are WILLING to pay.

Remember that they are RARE!

I'm still waiting for te seller to get back to me, but if he offers a reasonable price then I will use two to cool down my Maxi Gamer SLI set and keep the third in its packaging as a collectable. I might see if it's possible to make a rip off copy from the one that I don't use.

Making a "clone" of a stealth cooler will be tricky...

You'll need some GOOD modding skills and many tools...

LOL, or a German friend with excellent modding skills and superb tools :D

We'll see when they arrive though. I actually don't doubt you when you say that this will be difficult at best, but fortunately the seller has replied with a good price, so I should be getting all three for £12 including postage. Personally I think that's a pretty good deal for something that is so hard to find. It looks like my Voodoo 2's will be well protected at least, now it's time to think about that Voodoo 5... :)

I've been searching high and low for a V2 Stealth cooler.  Would you be interested in selling your third one?

Also, I have an mostly functional v5 5500 AGP card I would trade for it.  The card will only render properly in 32 bit color.  Simply force 32 bit rendering and away you go.  2D works fine and everything.

Let me know if you are interested in either a purchase or trade.

Thanks,
Ken (USA)
