Title: The Real Velocity 200 lives!!!
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 01.09.05 at 14:11:34
Well my 3dfx friends, the truth does reveal it's self, we have discussed lots about the Velocity 200, and those topics still ended in doubts hehe, well I have proof like Gary, Oscar, yxfy do.

The driver install was rather a tricky thing to go through, I have tried all types of Velocity 100/200 drivers, but they just seem to be control apnnels, I even tried your Velocity 100/200 driver FalconFly, but that also seem to be a Controlpannel only driver.

So I searched out some other ideas, cause look'n at 16 colours isn't very pleasant haha. SO I tried the AMigaMerlin2.9, that was a nogo, kep the 16 colours, tried some other 3rd party drivers like the ones from 3Dhq, well my Velocity 200 friends even that is a nogo.

So I remembered that Gary Told me to use the origanla 3dfx drivers , but I didn't remember which ones lol, damn memory loss, I suppose it's my age lol. So I \came acros this driver on FalconFly's 3dfx Archives Driver Page:

3dfx voodoo3-10700b.zip
http://www.traumatic.de/pphlogger/dlcount.php?id=FalconFly&url=http://www.planetfalconfly.de/downloads/voodoo3-10700b.zip

and the latest 3dfx Velocity 100/200 AGP crontrol pannel driver:
http://www.traumatic.de/pphlogger/dlcount.php?id=FalconFly&url=http://www.falconfly.de/downloads/velocity-10000.zip

and here the control pannel with brightness control:

As you can see, the Velocity 200 is called Voodoo3, maybe this is because that it's one of the first working Prototypes, it's a Rev.A0 2699 that from week 26 and year 1999, quite early model, the most models were mostly after week 32.

It's Bios chip also has a V3.2000 sticker, so maybe that declares the Voodoo3 2000/3000 driver ;)

Well maybe it states Voodoo 3 because of the reference V3 drivers, if you use the drivers off the Velocity 100 disc it identifies it as a Velocity 100/200.

Windows 95 / 98 / Me required I would think though.

oh okay, well I just found out that my Velocity 100 CD isn't useable, there seems to be a tear in the CD it's self :|

Oh well, it works fine like this also, or maybe you could link the original Velocity 100/200 drivers :)

great trying,Obi-Wan_Kenobi

what is difference between voodoo3 1000 and Velocity 200,,,just bios? i saw the pcb design are same of both...

the Voodoo3 1000 runs @ core/mem 125Mha and the Velocity 200 @ core/mem 143Mhz

The Voodoo3 1000 AGP 16MB has 2 TMU's enabled.
The production model of the Velocity 200 would of had 1 TMU like it's Velocity 100 compettitor, the production Velocity 200 was advertised but never released.

but this early prototype of the Velocity 200 like all other 5 Velocity 200's have both TMU's enabled.

We really don't know that but it is possible.

BTW- I have been doing some research into the whole reason that Velocity 200 was dropped.

Several reasons were mentioned including lack of profit, lack of features (OEM's didn't want the boards- no 32 bit color, 256 x 256 textures, etc) and something new, 3dfx fired all the 3dfx reps who handled the OEM accounts.

Daytona was suppose to address the "feature checklist" but it didn't make it in time and even if it did 3dfx had fired the people whos job it was to interface with the OEM's.

If you don't think usless features are important look how many TNT2M64 cards are still being sold!

hmm must of been frustrating for those people too , my gosh.

but it does have 256x256 texturing , you need 2048 x 2048 for 32Bit right?

yeah exactly, there are millions of TNT2 M64's! at the computer store where I work, there are still TNT2M64 left overs :-X
