Board suggestion?
20.05.04 at 16:34:26

How about a section for listing less then honest sellers or warnings about items on Ebay?

Example- I just purchased a "new" Raven Banshee card that clearly has been used. The seller is trying to BS me by telling me that they test all the cards to which I pointed out to him that screwing the card in place is hardly required for testing and the card in question has not just one set of screw marks but two!

I don't mind having the card, I do mind paying a premium and not getting what was advertised.

Thoughts? I have been on other boards that had good seller/bad seller lists and they tend to work out rather well.

Well, that would end us up with a list in the dimensions of several ten thousands, with new Accounts popping up ever day Roll Eyes

IMHO, that is impossible here, and the EBay Forums are a better bet for support in such matters...

About Ebay itself :
Having grown to have so many Million people using it by now, it has naturally become a mirror of society; you'll find anything from great folks downto complete scammers there...

Perhaps... but I didn't think that there is that many of us still collecting cards. How many people on this board are?

I have looked into Ebay's fourm's once, no help there. Ebay want's your money and once they get it forget it.

Most people you deal with on the 'net are up and up honest... So that what I was thinking that if we could have an area listing the worst offenders or bad dealings it might be of help with the small number of bad sellers.

Ok how about another suggestion- How about a section here for collectors looking to buy/sell/trade? I have a number of extra cards that I'd rather swap for cards I don't have.

I don't think we get enough traffic that Joe Average consumer will be here posting that his V2000 is for sale for $50 Wink

FalconFly is right.  Unfortunately, this would produce a BIG list, being constantly updated.
Eventually you are going to find that the bad sellers will either change their usernames (to try and hide their shameful past) or will have been banned after so many warnings by ebay.
This would leave us with plenty of useless redundant data.Sad

Even if you do bump into a bad seller, what are the chances he will be selling anymore 3dfx-related items? It does not mean that he is destined to sell 3dfx items in the future.  He may be a casual seller of just about everything.
For example,
One bidder may have a bad encounter with a bad seller, FalconFly stores their records, but the seller never sells anymore 3dfx stuff again (it might have been 1 item they have in their possession). FalconFly therefore holds onto usless information that may pose little or no advantage in the future.

The only good sellers of 3dfx items on ebay are genuine honest and kind general sellers or ex-3dfx collectors looking to offload their old stock.

I understand your concern as I have had problems with sellers in the past. Please allow me to explain: (for those who do not wish to read my story, please ignore the next post from myself).

I won a graphics card on ebay, fully retailed boxed with everything, labelled "3dfx Banshee AGP TV-OUT".
I won it for around £6.50.
When I recieved the item, it was an S3 Savage3D, not a Banshee.  Both cards share the same manual, labelled on the front "S3 Savage 3D / 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee".
He thought he would make more money from it by falsely advertising it as a 3dfx card. Angry

I tried to get my money back, but he would only offer me the £6.50.  I also paid £3.50 for the shipping, only to find when it arrived in a brown paper bag, and the postage label said it cost him £1.33.  I was furious!  Angry
He also charged me 5% surcharges for PayPal, however he said he would not pay my surcharges if he refunded me through PayPal! Angry

He left me positive feedback as I had paid for the item but I left him negative as he had falsely advertised the item.

He then raised a SquareDeal case against me, as he had realised the feedback I left him.
He requested that he would remove my feedback (positive) if I removed the feedback I left for him (negative)! Is this guy stupid? He must think I am to ask me this, as I am in the better position here!Wink

So I advertised the item myself as a S3 Savage3D (which it was) and it sold for £12.50.  I made twice the profit from the item, than what he made off me!  Wink
So I had the last laugh!  Grin

He also had to drop the SquareDeal case as I was not willing to negotiate as I had already sold the item myself!Wink

At the end of the day, my conclusion is this.
We all run into people like these and sometimes have the worst experiences with them.

But to log records here against bad sellers, would not improve matters at all.  It would probably make them worse as it is more time consuming to monitor and update records, that people may never find useful!
