Title: Dropped 19 inch crt=Alot of busted plastic and circuit boards
Post by sb306 on 11.03.09 at 12:20:13
Well, I decided to get another monitor. I always preferred a crt as opposed to lcds. Anyways, I ordered one off of Ebay and it showed up today. Looked good up until I saw that the tube was loose inside the shell. Fedex dropped it. The packing wasnt that great. All the supports that hold the front of the tube to the shell had broke in half. The front plastic cracked from the inner corner to the outter corner. Since the tube was loose, the circuit board was supporting the weight of the tube :-/ Pieces of circuit board were inside the shell, broken. I plugged it in ;) and the circuit board was actually arcing ::)

Its kind of a shame because the monitor actually looked like it was in good shape before the drop. oh well, it was cheap. Not too big of a loss. Im going to see if they will give me a partial refund maybe.

Ok. Im done whining.

I actually got a pretty quick reply from the sender, and it was helpful.

I actually saw a monitor on Craigslist :-/ today. A used Optiquest/viewsonic Q95 for $30. I brought it home and it seems to work well. The only problem is that it is dim. I had to turn up the colors to 95% and the contrast and brightness to 100%, just to have a decent picture. Every game that I have tried has a in-game brightness level though, which makes it easy to achieve an acceptable brightness level. It seems wierd that the monitor is maxed out, but through an in game menu you can get the brightness perfect.  :o

If you are looking for a great monitor I recommend this one:

Sure it might cost a bit to get, but boy oh boy is it worth it.  I am very happy with mine. :)

ooohhhh. That looks nice. In a few months Ill probably get a nice monitor like that. Im going to Las Vegas at the end of the month to see the monster jam world finals(pause for laughter)  ;D So money is tight.

Is it just me, or do crt screens look better than lcds? I like lcds. But it seems like a crt is always brighter with better colors and have virtually no lag that I have been able to see.

Hell yeah man, congrats on going to Monster Jam. (especially the finals)

CRT's are amazing.  It is not just you, the image quality is far superior.  I use that 21" with my 3dfx rig and it is simply amazing.  Beware that the beast weighs in around 70 lbs.
