Voodoo5 5500 DVI Question
01.06.08 at 13:24:36

I have an v5 5500 PCI without DVI and my ideea was to mount the DVI connector.
Are also another parts that have to be soldered, or just the DVI connector ?

I noticed that only the PCI version has an DVI connector and the AGP version not ( only some prototypes on Gary's Page ). What is the reason for this ?
The V4 AGP version has soldering points for DVI connector, the V5 AGP not.

A V5 5500 PCI with DVI can work with two monitors simultaneous ? ( connected @ D-SUB and DVI )

You at least have to mount another chip.

This was probably done to cut costs. The V4 AGP has extra lanes on it's PCB from where the chips would go and where the DVI connector would go. By not having those lanes (and soldering points) you save money.

Dual-monitor is not supported, you either use the D-Sub or DVI connector.

For the DVI connector to work there is an extra IC like @NitroX says... Wink

...but also lots of extra resistors, capacitors and maybe also transistors too. Tongue

This is why the MAC V5500 is a sought after beasty! Cool

But you need SMDs. This will be the difficult part. Maybe Eye-Q can post a picture of the 4500 AGP with TV-OUT & DVI-D. I modded this card some years ago and donated it.
