Title: Identifying this V5500
Post by PhoZy on 18.10.03 at 11:20:44
I brought a v5500 off ebay, and it is my first 3dfx card.I notice some special with this board is that it come with both vga and dvi out.But while serving over the net.i could only locate v5500 with vga out and i really want to know why my card is so "special".

Well if it's not a PCI card, it could be one of those "rare" engineering boards...

Ok,i manage to find out that this is the mac version. So is there any difference between the mac and the pci version?(As i heard that the mac version has very poor performance)

I know the thread is about two months old, but I thought I'd throw some stuff in:

The card IS a Mac card.

The DVI-out MIGHT or MIGHT NOT work.  It will depend on the BIOS the seller used to flash the card.

The only difference between the PCI PCV5 and the MacV5 is the DVI out port and the BIOS.  The guy on ebay probably picked up a bunch of Mac V5's pretty cheap and flashed them to the PC BIOS and resold them, because PCI V5's were, for a long while, selling really high on eBay (since they really are some of the most powerful PCI graphics cards you can get).

You should be good, all should work well, and enjoy your trip back in time with the Voodoo! :)

Hm, interesting to read, since I just got myself one of those (with a bit of luck, the seller will even find its original Packaging ;D )

It'll be interesting to see if that good old Voodoo5 DVI works with a PC Bios (or even the DVI Connector, but I don't know if there's any special Bios existing for it)

Not just the 1.18, but a modded version of the 1.18.

http://welcome.to/3dfxBIOS - he'll have it, whenever his site gets back online (there seems to be a long delay when going to web pages).  Under the Voodoo 5 5500 PCI for PC you'll see a 1.18 and a 1.18 WITH DVI OUT SUPPORT.  You oughtta be able to do something with that, although I've never had a chance to see it in action. ;)
