I'm talking about Real3D, the Lockheed Martin spin off. I thought you meant the VR Simulators that Lockheed Martin worked on. Hint, two of them start with R3D

When Real3D went bust and was bought by Intel, Intel brought a container in the main hallway, and everyone was told to dispose of everything they worked on, cards, prototypes, documentation. The lot. One or two people secretly kept their cards, since they worked for over 2 years on it, it was such a sad end to the projects, they couldn't let them go.

I got in touch with the Real3D crew that works at AMD (ATI) now, and the rest followed from that.

Quite a story.

Sometimes you get lucky....

I contacted a guy about the Spectra 2500. He ended up having the two V2s also. I have always admired Canopus as a board manufacturer. Their card designs are unique and are optimized to the teeth.

I have been searching for the Spectra off and on for about 10 years. I couldn't afford one back in '98. I really like the box front.

NOTE: due to my novice picture taking taking skills, what seems to be gold is actually silver in colour. If anyone can recommend a website or general tips, I would really appreciate it. - I am using a Canon A620 PowerShot 7.1MP camera.

I had similar luck a couple times with finding canopus cards:

1) Ebay BIN auction for a Pure 3dII for $20. The seller also had a Pure3DLX and two Monster 3d Voodoo 1 cards he sold me for $5 each. Cost me $40 for all four with shipping.

2) Ebay auction for Pure 3DII LX for $30

3) Ebay auction for Pure 3DII and 3DII LX that ended around ~$80

4) Ebay auction for Spectra 2500 that ended around ~$80

All of these were in the last year. The only reason I snagged the second 3DII pair was because I thought the fan always ran on the LX version. Turns out, Canopus had two different revs of the Pure 3DII PCB and one of them had the cooling fan setup to only run when the board was running in 3D! You can see the difference in the layout of the capacitors along the bottom edge next to the RAM.

As a side note, I bought a Spectra 2500 new back in 98'. I only kept it for about 6 months because I thought it was slow as hell when compared to my Creative Voodoo 2 SLI setup. I ended up selling it on ebay for more than what I originally paid. I sure wish I had kept it considering I spent almost 9 months waiting for one to show up on ebay last year.

Both the PURE3D and PURE3DII LX have the Canopus fans over the 3dfx chipset. I sold a Spectra 2500 semi-functional card-only auction for 61 US in November
