Title: about voodoo prototype card
Post by frank-bao on 23.08.05 at 23:01:24
i am thinking about a question about prototype card

we always see prototype cards with "Not For Resale" sticker and the pcb date is differ from retail ones

for example: voodoo5 5500 agp2x prototype with pcb 1400 version....

if the card with pcb 1400 but do not have " Not For Resale" sticker...can we say that it is a prototype card?
always see this kind of card and was to be oem products

well maybe a few pics of your could could reveal some better info for us hehe.

But yes if it has the white stickers with the Black ink tekst saying in capital Western Letters: "NOT FOR RESALE" it's a prototype allright ;)

Anyway that is known in the most Prototype occasions.

And the 3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x2 64MB Rev.A0 1400 is known as a prototype in the archives, Osckhar has that device ;)

But if your Voodoo5 5500 AGP x2 is a Rev.A0 1400 it is deffintely a Prototype, because a Rev.A0 V5 5500 AGP isn't common at all, the production models of the 5500 AGP are all but Rev.A's ;) with the following Rev and PCB dates:

3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x2 64MB Rev.A 1800
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x2 64MB Rev.A 1900
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x2 64MB Rev.A 2100
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x2 64MB Rev.A 2300
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP x2 64MB Rev.A 2500

hi there,

well to be honest,
my V5 6000 AGP Rev 2600 is definately a prototype
but do not have a single "NOT FOR RESALE" sticker on it

@ Edmundo

Same is true for my V5-6000 Rev.A2, 2600.
It does not have a "Not for Resale"-Sticker either.

The stickers could have been removed by former owners. ;) You can't say definitely whether it is a prototype or not when there aren't "Not for resale"-stickers on it but you can say definitely it is a prototype when these stickers are on the card (unless the stickers has been attached by a joker later ;) ).

If I'm not mistaking, the cards with these stickers are pre-production samples that are sent to the press etc. Prototypes stay within the factory so there's no real need to put 'not for resale' on them.

that's a prototype alright!, look carefully bellow the first VSA-100 chip, it says Rev.A0 and the back it does say 1400 just behind it's backplate ;) this is indeed a Pre Production Prototype, but with the NOT FOR RESALE Stickers removed, Oscar has this very same card also.

here it is, Click Thumbnails To Enlarge!!!

here the Rev.A0 I meant:
http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/albums/album107/Revisi_n.thumb.jpg

normally it's PCB date would be located at it'this backend of the card:
http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/albums/album107/Back.thumb.jpg
but it's PCB date is placed on it's back side behind it's Metal Backplate:
http://www.3dfx.ch/gallery/albums/album107/Rev_1400.thumb.jpg
as like your pic show's that location overall,it's located on the Right, behind the metal backplate, just above that white stamp:

Here more shots of that Voodoo5 Rev.A0 1400 that Osckhar has, his model does infact still have it's NOT FOR RESALE STICKER attatched :) maybe his card was used in a review, who knows.
